Cliffside Park, NJ, Feb. 27, 2016—Cliffside Park firefighters were dispatched at about 5:30 a.m. for a smoke condition in a deli. Members forced entry to both the front and rear of the store and found fire in the rear kitchen area. The visible flames were quickly extinguished, but it was soon apparent that the fire had extended to the cockloft and was quickly spreading. A third alarm was transmitted as the fire broke through the roof. Members were withdrawn and a defensive operation commenced with one Squrt, one ladder pipe, and several handlines and monitors. The fire eventually extended to the front of the deli and the roof collapsed. Crews were able to save an attached retail/apartment building.
