Your Action Needed to Help Save AFG and SAFER!
Do you know of a fire department that received much-needed federal funding for training, equipment, or recruitment? Chances are that funding came from an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) or Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. If Congress does not act within the next few months, AFG and SAFER will cease to exist.
As seen in this letter from the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and over 30 fire service related organizations, we are in a fight to save these hugely successful programs. We need your help to join us in this fight!
Between now and February 23, Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL) and Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) are leading a letter asking the leadership in the House of Representatives to include the reauthorizations for AFG, SAFER, and the U.S. Fire Administration in the upcoming “must pass” funding bill. It is crucial that as many Members of Congress as possible sign this letter so that House leadership knows these reauthorizations are widely supported.
Your Member of Congress needs to hear from you to get them to sign this letter! Please use this NVFC Action Alert to contact your Member of Congress and ask them to sign Rep. Bost's and Rep. Pascrell’s letter by the February 23 deadline. It only takes one minute of your time and a couple clicks to use this alert to make your voice heard. Also, visit the Congressional Fire Service Institute’s AFG and SAFER landing page to see more way you can help save these critical grants.
