Firehouse is proud to announce that Peter Matthews has been named editor-in-chief for the Firehouse brand.

November 30, 2018—Firehouse is proud to announce that Peter Matthews has been named editor-in-chief for the Firehouse brand. Matthews was named in September as the new conference director for Firehouse Expo and Firehouse World as well as acting editor-in-chief, directing the editorial content in Firehouse Magazine and on Firehouse.com; his appointment as editor-in-chief is now permanent. Matthews will oversee the spectrum of editorial and educational content across the Firehouse brand.

Matthews started his Firehouse career in 1999 and has served in multiple leadership and management roles, including executive editor for Firehouse.com, leading a team responsible for Firehouse’s 365-days-a-year digital operation.

Matthews previously served as a photo editor and photographer at The New York Post. His father, a 59-year volunteer firefighter, introduced him to the fire service. Matthews volunteered with fire departments in New York and Maryland, holding the rank of lieutenant, and served as photographer for the St. Paul, MN, Fire Department.

“Peter has been an integral part of the Firehouse team for close to 20 years, and as the leader of Firehouse’s digital content team for most of that time, he has been a key contributor to the success of our fastest growing media segment,” said Greg Toritto, vice president/group publisher, public safety, Endeavor Business Media. “Peter’s passion for the fire service and Firehouse, as well as his deep understanding of Firehouse’s history and legacy, makes him an ideal choice for this prestigious appointment.”

Matthews said he is honored to hold this position at Firehouse where he can work with a staff that is dedicated to educating the fire service through various platforms, including digital and social media, the three conferences, and Firehouse Magazine.

“Firehouse has a proud tradition of sharing relevant information related to tactics, safety, health, leadership, career development, apparatus and equipment with all ranks of the fire service,” he said. “Our goal is to inform you about the latest trends on Firehouse.com and in the magazine and then provide you access to the latest equipment and knowledge at our shows.”

In other personnel news, Firehouse is also excited to share the hiring of Joe Vince, who will serve as the primary news editor on Firehouse.com. Vince will write and curate content for the site, helping Firehouse.com continue to serve as the leading source of daily news for the fire service.

Vince has 20 years of editorial experience, having worked in a variety of roles for multiple newspapers and websites, including the Indianapolis Star, the South Bend Tribune, MKE magazine and Reddit. His most recent editorial work was with Patch, a national network of hyperlocal news sites for which Vince served as an editor for multiple Chicago-area sites.

Firehouse plans to share additional news about expanding its editorial team in the near future.
