A veteran firefighter in Hawaii died this past weekend after suffering a cardiac emergency during a routine medical call.
The U.S. Fire Administration announced Wednesday that fire equipment operator Eric Hayashi with the Hawaii Fire Department in Hilo suffered a fatal heart attack last Saturday while assisting on a medical run at a residence.
The USFA says Hayashi was immediately transported to the Hilo Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Hayashi was 49 years old and a 25-year veteran of the fire service.
