A volunteer Alorton fire captain and his wife, who works for the East St. Louis School District, are two of four people arrested in a drug bust conducted by St. Clair County and federal agents last week.

Carlos M. Darough, 27, of 1808 Gay Ave. in East St. Louis was charged with unlawful possession with the intent to deliver cannabis, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Darough, a captain with the Alorton Fire Department, was the main target of the three-month investigation, said Kurt Eversman, supervisor of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department's Drug Tactical Unit.

Undercover agents purchased drugs from residences on Piggott Avenue and Jefferson Street in Centreville that Darough frequented.

Sheriff's deputies and U.S. marshals also found some crack cocaine in Darough's truck, Eversman said.

Bail for Darough was set at $50,000. He posted the bond and was released from the St. Clair County Jail.

Darough's status with the Alorton Fire Department was not available Thursday night.

Darough's wife, Lanelle Darough, 26, was charged with unlawful possession with the intent to deliver cannabis, unlawful possession of cannabis and attempting to obstruct justice.

Bail for her was set at $5,000. She posted the bond and was released. Her status with District 189 was not available Thursday night.

Also charged in the case were Corey D. Jimerson, 26, and Chantelle Williams, 22, both of 4753 Piggott Ave., Centreville. Bail for Jimerson was set at $10,000. He posted it and was released. Williams' bail was set at $5,000. She also posted it and was released.

Carlos M. Darough was arrested at the Piggott Avenue address. After the search warrants were served on Piggott and at 611 Jefferson St. on Jan. 19, officers went to Darough's residence on Gay Avenue where they seized marijuana and a firearm.

Lanelle Darough was charged with obstruction of justice because "when we arrived at the house, she was exiting the house with a scale and some cannabis in a trash bag. It appeared that she was trying to get rid of it," Eversman said.

At the Jefferson address, no one was home, but a small amount of cocaine, two handguns and four rifles, one of which was an AK-47, and 1,000 rounds of ammunition were recovered, Eversman said.

Police know who the house belongs to, and "we think it was being used as a hangout house for some of the people involved in the drug investigation," Eversman said. Charges are pending on suspects from the residence, he said.
