May 24--A 19-year-old Glenelg man was arrested after Howard County police said he set a speed camera box on fire earlier this week and tried do it again Saturday.
Connor Lynn Eash, of 13680 Bold Venture Drive, has been charged with first- and second-degree malicious burning, attempt to burn and multiple counts of destruction of property.
A report of the fire about 4:45 a.m. Thursday sent to police to 14000 block of Burntwoods Road in Glenelg where they found the equipment aflame and extinguished the fire, police said. No one was hurt, police said. After the fire, officers set up surveillance and observed Eash approaching the equipment about 5 a.m. Saturday holding ax and a bottle of accelerant, police said.
Officers arrested Eash shortly thereafter. A lighter was also found in Eash's possesion, police said.
A similar fire at the same location took place last September. Police suspect that the incidents are related. The department estimates that the fires caused about $30,000 worth of damage.
Eash is currently being held by police and attempts to reach a lawyer for Eash were unsuccesful.
