July 30--SULLIVAN -- A local restaurant was declared a total loss Tuesday after an early morning fire.
Sullivan firefighters arrived at the Red Apple Diner at 8:25 a.m. and called in additional departments a short time later to help bring the fire under control.
The diner's operators reported the fire and evacuated the building, located at 1402 S. Hamilton St., before fire departments arrived. No injuries were reported.
The flames lasted for two hours and were put out by an estimated 50 firefighters from eight area departments. The State Fire Marshals Office and a member of the Sullivan Fire Department were still attempting to determine the cause of the fire Tuesday evening.
Sullivan fire Capt. Chris Wright said the building was lost.
The owners of the business are still being located but officials said they were told by the business's operators that several renovations had been taking place, including electrical updates.
