July 31--SAN BERNARDINO -- An Arizona man piloting a hang glider crashed Wednesday into the densely brush-covered hills near the 6000 block of Badger Canyon Road, according to fire officials.
Firefighters received the call shortly after 5 p.m., but discovered the terrain would make it difficult to reach the pilot and requested the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Air Rescue helicopter to assist in the rescue, fire officials said.
"Sheriff Air Rescue 6 lowered their San Bernardino County Fire Flight Medic down to the patient and hoisted the male victim to safety," officials said in a written statement.
The man was taken to a landing zone at the nearby Andy Jackson Airpark where he was assessed by paramedics before being taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, officials said.
The cause of the accident is unknown.
