Aug. 20--A house caught fire Tuesday evening in southwest Fort Lauderdale, causing moderate to heavy smoke damage to the structure.
The fire in the 3100 block of Southwest 16th Street started in a 28-foot boat and spread to a carport before reaching the house, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Timothy C. Heiser said. There were no reported injuries.
Fire Rescue officials were able to put out the fire "pretty quickly," Heiser said.
The resident of the house had been working on the boat when the fire started, Heiser said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
