Texas Apartment Complex Fire Leaves One Dead

Lubbock Fire Rescue crews were able to contain fire to the apartment of origin after finding heavy smoke coming from the complex. One person in the apartment died in the fire.

Aug. 31--One person is dead after the Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a fire Sunday afternoon in Lubbock.

Five units responded to a reported structure fire at Woodcrest Apartments in the 5400 block of 66th Street about 3 p.m., according to the rescue unit.

"Crews arrived to find heavy smoke conditions in one apartment," according to a release. "The incident was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes and did not spread past the apartment of origin."

One person died in the fire, and the apartment sustained fire damage to one bedroom as well as smoke damage.

The person's name has not been released, and the cause of death is unknown.

The Lubbock Police Department is investigating the death, and the Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
