ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Firefighters in Arlington are dealing with a tragic scene where two people have died in an overnight house fire.

According to Captain Bill Shelton, spokesman for the fire department, crews were called to the 1100 block of Emerson Street for a reported house fire with two people trapped.

We're told that a neighbor called 9-1-1 at 4:15 a.m. Then someone inside the house called 9-1-1 at 4:17 a.m.

A tweet from the fire department confirms two people died in the fire, and two others were transported to local hospitals. Captain Shelton confirms one of the victims was taken to Children's Hospital and the second victim was transported to Medstar. At this time there is no update on their conditions.

Neighbors tell us that the people inside the house were a family of four. According to them, the mother and a 7-year-old daughter died in the fire. The father and the 12-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital.

One neighbor talked to us on Tuesday morning. He was distraught and told us that his daughter had just played with the 7-year-old on Monday.

Arlington County fire crews have blocked 11th Street between Frederick and Emerson.
