A “mayday call” was made during a fire in Riverdale, a Chicago suburb, and four firefighters were hospitalized during the extra-alarm blaze that damaged a condominium building.
According to a report published by the Chicago Tribune, four firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries and commanders at the scene of the Tuesday night blaze assured media the firefighters would be OK.
The mayday call was made by a firefighter who ran out of air on the third floor, according to the newspaper.
Firefighters from several surrounding communities were summoned to help after the distress call was made, the paper reported.
The fire started in a second floor unit and at least five others were damaged during the battle that lasted about 45 minutes, according to the newspaper.
