Five Firefighters Die in China Warehouse Collapse

The third floor of an 11-story high-rise collapsed, trapping more than a dozen firefighters.

Rescuers removed the bodies of two firefighters, bringing the toll to five for the number of firefighters who perished in a fire and collapse Friday in China’s Heilongjiang Province.

Firefighters started battling the blaze in the third floor of an 11-story building around 1 p.m., the South China Morning Post reported. The first three floors of the building were used by a market warehouse.

After battling the fire for several hours, firefighters entered the structure to remove debris from the building.

According to the newspaper, the third floor collapsed and trapped more than a dozen firefighters.

Officials said three firefighters died Friday.

A dozen firefighters were injured and several are in critical condition.
