MOOSIC — Fire crews helped retrieve a Pennsylvania Turnpike worker who slipped about 50 feet down an embankment on Sunday.

The worker, who could not be identified, slid down the embankment off Interstate 476 just south of the Lackawanna River around 9 a.m., Taylor Fire Chief David Graham said.

Taylor and South Abington fire companies both were dispatched to the scene. Chief Graham said the worker had hurt his back and was taken to a hospital, but his injuries were not critical.
