South African firefighters are mourning the loss of two colleagues.

Working on Fire Firefighters Darrel Rea and Jastun Visagie were killed when their chopper crashed while battling a mountain blaze, according to EWN.

The Civil Aviation Authority and Working on Fire have since launched a joint investigation in to the cause of the crash.

Working on Fire’s Linton Rensburg told reporters: “It's a very sad day. We’ve been through extensive grief and trauma counselling and obviously we are doing as much as possible to work with their respective families.”

The agency has provided grief counselors to crews as well.
