N.M. Firefighter Accused of Theft from Crash Scene

A Clovis firefighter was charged with misdemeanor larceny after allegedly taking items from a crash scene.

A Clovis firefighter was charged with misdemeanor larceny after allegedly taking items from a crash scene.

Lt. Christopher Elam, 32, was charged Friday, according to the Clovis News Journal.

The May 1 accident happened on U.S. 60/84 near Melrose. 

Sheriff Wesley Waller said Elam stole a bottle containing an alcoholic beverage, a bottle of a non-alcoholic beverage and a bottle of seasoning from a vehicle in the crash. 

“The crash involved two vehicles and took over one hour to extricate the victim from his vehicle,” a statement from the sheriff's office stated. “The victim received severe injuries and was airlifted from the scene to a Lubbock…hospital.”
