N.C. Teens Rescue Disabled Person From House Fire

The Fayetteville fire was caused by an electrical short.

Two Fayetteville teenagers helped a disabled person escape a house fire Wednesday evening.

Shortly before 6 p.m., a fire at a home at 5105 Birch Road was sparked after an electrical issue, Battalion Chief Brian Mims said.

The homeowner's sister told fire investigators she went to a neighbor's house about a possible electrical issue and when she came back, she saw smoke coming from the back side of the house and called 911.

Two teenage neighbors, Christian Elliot and Joshua Daniel, ran inside to assist a disabled occupant out of the house, Mims said.

The person was evaluated by EMS personnel on scene and was released with no injuries, the release said.

It took about 20 minutes for firefighters to get the blaze under control.

The owner has family in the area and did not need any assistance from the Red Cross.

The fire damage was confined to the living room with heat and smoke damage throughout the house.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical short in a wall outlet.
