Mich. House Fire Claims Mother, Son

Muskegon Township Chief Dave Glotzbach said only one smoke detector was found.

A mother and son perished and a man was injured in a house fire in Muskegon Township, Mich. early Friday.

The victims were described as a 64-year-old woman and her 36-year-old son, according to WOOD.

The woman's husband escaped, but was treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews encountered heavy black smoke, Chief Dave Glotzbach said.

The fire started in the basement about 2:30 a.m., the station reported.

Glotzbach said there should have been more smoke detectors in the house. 

The cause is under investigation.
