Firefighters in Douglas County are upset by the conditions of their ambulances, saying it has impacted response times.
The county has 11 ambulances, and five were sidelined Tuesday. An official said air conditioning problems took some of those units off the street.
“They’re falling apart,” a firefighter told local television station CBS46.
Some vehicles have over 150,000 miles and preventative maintenance is lacking, they say.
A firefighters claims that maintenance staff are using zip-ties and glue to secure headlights on one ambulance.
“That hampers response times,” said Jim Daws, President of the Georgia Firefighters Union.
“We are working on the issue and plan to buy a new ambulance very soon,” County Manager Mark Teal said.
