A volunteer firefighter was injured while he was responding to barn fire in Jeremiah Friday morning.
He was traveling in his personal vehicle when the crash occurred on Highway 7 South and his vehicle caught fire.
"You go on runs all the time involving your family but firefighting, police officer, EMS, we're all brothers and sisters," Sandlick firefighter Charles Polly told WYMT.
He was extricated by fire crews and flown to a trauma center.
Car crashes on that stretch of roadway are common, witnesses and officials say.
"If you come around here with any kind of speed behind you at all, you always lose control," Polly told the television station. "It's a real dangerous curve, and we work several wrecks a year."
'They've knocked all the trees down," area resident Andrew Vaughn said. "They've went through and into that rock wall, and been all over the yard."
Crews from Letcher and Perry counties battled the fire in Red Star.
