William McDonald, 70, and his wife, Maria McDonald, 65, appeared to have died in what was once their bedroom at 3585 S. E. Soholt Lane before the triple-wide manufactured home exploded in flames around 4:15 a.m., according to authorities.
The coroner’s office said Wednesday medical investigators are still working to determine the cause and manner of their deaths, pending further lab tests.
Authorities previously released the couple’s presumed identities, though the coroner’s office formally identified them.
Kitsap County Fire Marshal David Lynam, whose agency is looking into the incident, said Tuesday it could take investigators several days to determine what caused the explosion.
Guy Dalrymple, deputy fire chief for South Kitsap Fire and Rescue, said at that time the McDonalds’ home was heated with propane. Investigators found the propane tank intact, but leaking fuel could have caused the blast, he said.
Detectives are not conducting a criminal investigation, according to the sheriff’s department.
