Window of Mich. Ambulance Smashed, EMT Hurt

The Detroit responder was treating a patient when the incident occurred.

An EMS worker was injured in Detroit on Tuesday night after the family of a patient became unruly at the scene, Detroit police said.

The incident began at around 7:30 p.m., when emergency medical personnel arrived to the 4600 block of Chatsworth on Detroit’s east side to help a person having a medical emergency, said Officer Jennifer Moreno.

But while assisting the patient, the family became unruly, Moreno said. That’s when a family member used “an unknown object” to smash the back window of the emergency vehicle, and the object also then struck a medic, Moreno said.

The EMT was taken to St. John Hospital in Detroit with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have not arrested anyone yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
