An unknown malady has claimed the life of a U.S. Forest Service firefighter in California.
Engine Operator Ian Howard, 36, was assigned to Engine 16 from the Beckwourth Ranger District of the Plumas National Forest.
He had been sent to Paskenta Work Center on the Mendocino National Forest to battle a wildfire.
He spent the night in Corning, CA, and he was found dead the following morning.
To date, 57 firefighters have died on duty in 2016.
