More than $45,000 from the Glenwood Landing Fire Company’s account is missing and the department’s former treasurer has been arrested for embezzling the funds.
According to the Glen Cove Patch, Robert Brown, 50, of Farmingdale, allegedly skimmed funds from parties, parades and fundraising that should have gone to the department. The news agency also reported Brown allegedly stole money from the department’s arcade machine.
Brown is accused of embezzling cash from the fire company’s Membership Fund account. As its treasurer, Brown allegedly wrote checks from the account to the chairperson for fire company events, according to the report. When the cash was returned to him, instead of re-depositing into the account, Brown would pocket the money.
The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the case.
