Dozens of firefighters from the Boston area are battling a 10-alarm fire in Cambridge Saturday evening.
The fire was reported just before 3 p.m. on at Berkshire and Vandine Streets when winds were gusting up to 25 mph.
Five alarms were ordered within 15 minutes, according to the tweets sent by the Cambridge Fire Department.
The fire engulfed a three-story multiple dwelling that was undergoing construction.
“It went up in a heartbeat,” a resident told the Boston Globe. “It was just raging...It was just going so fast. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Flames jumped across the street and engulfed another multiple dwelling and a church, the Globe reported.
“You hear of wildfires and forest fires in California and all that, but this is something you never expect to see on your street,” Tory Preston-Djamboe said.
Three hours after the fire was reported, crews continue to battle the fire.
Cambridge officials opened a shelter for residents who have been evacuated.
