A used aerial tiller being driven from Kansas City, MO, to its new home in Canada caught fire and burned on an interstate in New York.
According to the local news agency CNYCentral.com, the truck burned near Exit 36 off the NY Thruway north of Syracuse. There were no injuries but the truck suffered significant damage, the news agency reported.
Liverpool’s fire chief said in the report that the tiller was an old unit from Kansas City Fire Department and was headed to Canada when the fire broke out. Where in Canada was not reported.
The driver reported smelling something burning when he got off the interstate to pull over and investigate, according to the news report. The truck quickly became fully involved and the driver escaped without injuries.
Because there were no hydrants in the area, several surrounding fire departments were called in to haul water, according to the news report. Two other vehicles and a nearby building were damaged by the fire truck fire, according to the new report.
Nobody was injured in the fire, but two vehicles and a building that were near the fire were damaged, in addition to the firetruck.
