Feb. 20, 2020
Passengers of a Trans-Bridge Lines bus were able to escape the vehicle after it burst into flames along Interstate 78 in Union Township early Thursday.

A Trans-Bridge Lines bus burst into flames Thursday morning on Interstate 78 East in New Jersey, halting traffic during the morning commute.

The incident began at about 6:54 a.m. near exit 50 in Union Township, the bus company said in a news release. The bus was evacuated and no one was injured.

Other Trans-Bridge buses picked up the passengers and took them to their destinations in New York City. The company is cooperating with authorities. About 10 to 15 passengers were on the bus, police said. All lanes were re-opened by 8:24 a.m., police said.

Trans-Bridge Lines is investigating the cause of the fire, and said there was no indication from the onboard systems and sensors as to what may have caused it.

The company said it would provide more information as it becomes available. Photos and videos from the scene show the bus was destroyed.

Channel 6 ABC had helicopter footage of the fire and the extinguished aftermath.
