Detroit fire crews encountered multiple explosions as they battled a blaze at a pallet factory Thursday that injured one firefighter.

Raw video captured thick columns of black smoke and fiery blasts as firefighters worked to put out the blaze, which spread to nearby structures thanks to strong winds, the Detroit Free Press reports. Around 60 firefighters responded to the scene, and it took seven hours to extinguish the flames.

The fire started around 11:30 a.m. at a pallet business on the Detroit's east side. Once crews reached the scene, they found a half-city block of pallets stacked two stories high fully engulfed in flames.

Several vacant structures near the pallet business caught fire or were damaged by the blaze. A bus and a trailer at a neighboring bus storage yard were destroyed by flames.

A firefighter suffered burns to his neck and arm, according to the Free Press. His injuries were considered minor, and he was treated and released from the hospital.

Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell said the blaze was one of the more "spectacular ones" the department has dealt with in recent years, but no civilians were injured.

“When you consider that nobody else got injured, I think that’s pretty good, with the amount of fire that was there,” he told the Free Press.

As of 6 p.m., firefighters were still trying to extinguish flames at the scene, the Free Press added.
