Two people were killed and one person was injured following a multi-vehicle crash that involved a tanker truck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The accident occurred a little before 11 a.m. Saturday along the Northeast Extension (I-476), between the Mid-County and Lansdale exits in Montgomery County.

The tanker truck, which was carrying jet fuel, caught on fire, resulting in a shutdown of all lanes in that area. Turnpike officials posted on social media that the closure will continue into the evening.

Pennsylvania State Police confirmed with CBS News Philadelphia that at least two people were killed as a result of the fire. Another person was taken to a hospital for burns. Their condition is not yet known.

Initially, people in nearby residences were asked to evacuate but have since been told that they can return to their homes, CBS reported.

A video that 6ABC obtained from a Hector Lucena shows the accident scene shortly after the crash, with the tanker truck engulfed in flames.

Aerial video taken by 6ABC showed a scorched truck cab along with two other burned vehicles. Firefighters could be seen spraying foam onto the tanker.

Turnpike officials were able to create an emergency access gate at mile marker 23 so motorists could turn around. They also removed some concrete barriers so traffic could turn around.
