Photos: Defensive Attack Used on N.C. Duplex

The two-story home with a tin roof had been converted into a duplex.

Firefighters were able to quickly contain a stubborn house fire in Rocky Mount on Sept. 17.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Rocky Mount firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of Arlington Street.

The first-in company reported a working fire in a two-story, tin-roof home. The home had been converted into a duplex. Heavy fire was located in the front room with an extension to the second floor attic area.

Two 1 3/4-inch hoselines were quickly placed in service.  Heavy dark smoke was coming from all sections of the building and an exterior attack was initiated, knocking down the bulk of the fire. This allowed the members to make an interior attack.

It took fire fighters about 20 minutes to control the fast-spreading fire and another 10 minutes to place the fire under control.

All occupants had exited the building and no injuries were reported.
