One person died in a Saint John, New Brunswick dwelling fire on Feb. 8.
At 4 a.m. crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the city's lower west side and found heavy smoke and fire in multi-unit building.
Crews used a fast attack and began search efforts. Heavy fire conditions throughout made the search difficult and at times caused serious safety conditions.
Firefighters did find the body of one person and had to extricate through a second story window via ground ladder.
The fire went to three alarms brought 24 firefighters to the scene.
Eventually a defensive attack was used to control the fire.
No other injuries have been reported and five people were left homeless.
