Waterway, the oldest and largest professional hose testing company in the USA, has a new name, Waterway Co-Op.
Started in 1989 by Firefighter Ed Okinsky in a single location, Waterway formed a nationwide franchised operation in 2008. Over the years the company has grown to service thousands of customers across the country, last year testing over 15 million feet of hose alone!
Recently, the 14 franchisee's completed purchasing the assets of the former Waterway Franchise LLC. This is a quite unusual deal for the firefighting business, indeed for any business, where the franchisees take over the entire business from the franchiser.
Each Waterway Co-Op location is 100 percent individually owned and operated, ensuring professional, local service.
Over the period Waterway has become the No. 1 fire hose testing company in the USA, operating in virtually all states on the east coast plus locations in and around Michigan, Illinois, Texas, New Mexico, and is looking to expand further.
In an effort to help departments painlessly comply with expanding NFPA standards, Waterway has added new testing services such as ground ladder, hard suction and most recently nozzle, appliance and pump testing. While not all locations carry out all the services, many do on the basis of providing fire departments with as many of their NFPA testing requirements as possible in a one-stop-shop service.
Waterway is the only ISO-9001 Quality Management certified company in the US operating in its field, ensuring the highest standards of performance. The company also pioneered on-line provision of test records, saving fire departments the trouble of having to store paper files.
The new company will be called Waterway Co-Operative LLC, signaling the ownership by all the franchisees.
