Fire Destroys Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis, S.D.

Sept. 9, 2015
Emmitt, the donkey and mascot of the world's largest biker bar, was rescued.

An early morning fire destroyed the popular Full Throttle Saloon near Sturgis.

The saloon was known as the world's largest biker bar and was the set of the "Full Throttle Saloon" reality show. Hundreds passed through the doors each summer during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Firefighters were summoned to the scene around 12:30 a.m. after a passerby noticed smoke, according to KBHB

Sturgis Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Barrows said firefighters were forced to hit the fire from the exteior as high winds fanned the flames. They also worked to protect nearby structures.

Emit, a donkey that serves as the bar’s mascot, was rescued during the fire.

Five additional fire departments responded to provide additional resources.
