MSA has announced that its G1 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) has received approval from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and certification from the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) as compliant to the 2013 edition of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1981 and 1982 standards.
“Our commitment to the fire service – when you go in, we go in with you – is more than just words. It’s what drives us,” said William Lambert, MSA president and CEO. “When we designed the G1 SCBA, we were guided by a single mission: To design and develop the most advanced, intelligent and user-friendly breathing apparatus the fire service has ever seen. We listened closely to our customers, and we solicited a tremendous amount of feedback from firefighters around the world. We refined our concepts over five years and used that feedback from firefighters to get us to this day – the formal launch of the MSA G1 SCBA.”
The all-new SCBA platform includes several patent-pending features, including the elimination of all electronic components from the facepiece; a “Central Power” feature that powers the entire unit from a single battery compartment; darkness- and smoke-piercing “buddy lights” that provide visible indicators of critical air supply data from any angle; and improved voice amplification communications, all standard on every MSA G1 SCBA.
PIERCE MANUFACTURING INC. has sold seven Pierce Arrow XT 100-foot heavy-duty aerial tiller apparatus to the Los Angeles, CA, Fire Department (LAFD). These apparatus comprise the initial installment of an ongoing 10-year “tag on” contract.
“We are proud and honored to build these exceptional aerial tiller apparatus for the Los Angeles City Fire Department,” said Jim Johnson, OSHKOSH CORP. executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “Aerial tillers, an iconic and highly regarded symbol of the fire service, are enjoying a resurgence in popularity across America due in part to their maneuverability in congested urban areas and through narrow streets. This fleet of rugged Arrow XT tillers is ideally suited to serve on the busy streets of Los Angeles.”
Each of the tiller apparatus for LAFD features a Cummins ISX engine, and an overall length less than 56 feet. The cab includes half-height doors and seating for five firefighters. They also feature a 100-foot heavy-duty ladder, an aluminum body with front, center and rear compartments and a full complement of ground ladders.
