A group of firefighters were in the right place at the right time Tuesday morning when a fire apparatus caught fire inside the Columbus Fire Station.
As they investigated the noise, they saw smoke coming from the department's aerial platform apparatus.
They hooked a chain to the smoking rig and pulled it from the apparatus bay with the help of a city truck as they called for help.
Once outside, the fire was quickly contained.
"The fire was centered on the alternator and caused significant damage," the department shared.
The aerial was towed from the scene and will be taken to a local fire apparatus repair shop for repairs.
The trio were at the station taking measurement to complete a station renovation quote.
