Kussmaul Electronics Founder Passes Away

Ernest A. Kussmaul, who founded Kussmaul Electronics in 1967 to service the emergency vehicle market, died Saturday at age 88.

The founder of a technology company which catered to the emergency vehicle market passed away over the weekend.

Ernest A. Kussmaul, the founder and former president of Kussmaul Electronics (KECO), died of a heart attack on Saturday, according to a Monday press release from KECO. He was 88 years old.

Kussmaul, affectionately known among friends and colleagues as "Ernie," founded his company in a small shop in 1967 and the business grew as it expanded into innovative solutions for fire, EMS and police vehicles.

Some of the company's oft-used products included battery charging systems, battery indicators and meters, and air compressors.

Kussmaul continued to contribute to the company as an engineer well into his 80s before retiring as president in 2015.
