Indianapolis, Ind. – The new Cummins X10 engine will be featured at FDIC International 2023 for thousands of Fire and Emergency professionals from around the world. In addition to the recently announced X10 at the company's booth, Cummins-Meritor is showcasing the heavy-duty rear drive RS-35-185 axle and the public will also be able to see Cummins Power Systems' energy solutions with power stations and portable generators up close.
Announced in February of this year, the next-generation diesel X10 will be launched in North America in 2026 and will set new industry standards for performance and reliability in fire and emergency vehicles. This engine is uniquely positioned to replace both the L9 and the X12 with the versatility to serve both medium and heavy-duty applications. It will be compliant with U.S. EPA’s 2027 regulations a full year early.
“Cummins has powered the fire service since 1937 and we know that fire and emergency professionals depend on and trust Cummins diesel engine technology. We're committed to advancing this technology and the next-generation X10 was designed with decades of experience in mind to ensure the new product provides reliable performance in these vehicles that are so important to our communities,” said Chris Crowel, Emergency Vehicle Engine Market Leader at Cummins Inc. “In addition to the Emergency Vehicle market, the X10 serves transit and trucking applications and fits into the Cummins product portfolio complemented by the B6.7 and X15.”
All-New X10™
With the ratings and reliability to complete the toughest jobs, the X10 is extremely versatile and will play an important role serving fire and emergency vehicle needs from 320 to 450 horsepower with up to 1650 foot pounds of torque. Diesel will remain a critical technology for these applications for years to come, and Cummins will continue to support these applications.
The new X10 diesel will emit 75 percent less NOx emissions than required at launch in 2026 and it will be compliant to the U.S. EPA’s 2027 regulations. The X10 architecture uses a belt-driven, high output 48-volt alternator and aftertreatment heater solution optimized for increasingly stringent emission standards and will be scalable to other advanced combustion technologies. For further reductions in carbon emissions, customers may choose to use B20 or renewable diesel.
The X10 aims to provide exceptional performance from idle to full power, which is critical for transient applications. Its extended maintenance intervals can help reduce visits to the shop. The engine is equipped with Acumen®, which provides digital connectivity and direct, immediate access to a range of applications and capabilities. These capabilities provide value throughout the lifecycle of the engine and include over-the-air calibration, predictive service recommendations and additional features that help departments keep their equipment on the road.
