"This very easily could have been catastrophic," the Ogdensburg firefighters union stated in an online update describing how the vehicle lost its rear axle while on a call.

OGDENSBURG, NY—An Ogdensburg Fire Department truck lost its rear axle on Thursday while it was responding to the scene of a meth lab in the city.

Firefighters were on their way to provide support at the lab when the axle fell off as the truck was making a left turn, according to WWNY. Ogdensburg Mayor Wayne Ashley said firefighters acted quickly to get the truck under control and stop it.

City officials are looking into what happened, WWNY said.

The Ogdensburg firefighters' union said in a Facebook post that the accident could have been catastrophic. No firefighters or bystanders were hurt.

The accident leaves the department with two main engines.
