Two people were taken to hospitals early Thursday, Jan. 14, when the SUV they were riding in collided with an Anaheim fire engine on its way to a call with flashing lights and sirens, authorities said.
The SUV the men were riding in had major damage to the front while the fire engine was hit on its left side.
None of the firefighters was taken to a hospital for medical treatment but they did have some pain, said Shane Carringer, a spokesman for Anaheim's police and fire departments.
Just after 1 a.m. when an Anaheim Fire & Rescue engine was headed southbound on Euclid Street toward Katella Avenue when it was hit by the SUV in the intersection with Sumac Lane, firefighters on scene said.
The fire engine was responding to a medical aid, Carringer said. In a situation like a crash, the fire engine would typically notify of the crash and another crew would be sent to the service call.
It did not immediately appear that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, Carringer said, but the crash was still under investigation.
