Several Hurt in Ambulance, Tractor-Trailer Wreck on Virginia's Eastern Shore

The Bloxom ambulance overturned after striking a tractor-trailer at a red light.

A collision between an ambulance and a tractor-trailer in Onley sent an EMS crew, the patient and another person to a hospital Tuesday.

The Bloxom Volunteet Fire Department ambulance, headed to a hospital with a patient, encountered a tractor-trailer stopped at a red light on U.S. 13.

The ambulance struck the rig as it attempted to go around it. Upon impact the EMS unit overturned, according to ShoreDailyNews.

Jerry Corbett Kellam Sr., the ambulance driver, as well as two other members of the EMS crew, including his wife, were transported to hospitals in Maryland and Virginia. 

Amanda Bare, the patient, and another person were flown by helicopter to Norfolk General Hospital.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt. 

Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.
