July 9, 2021
A crash between an Orlando Fire Department rescue unit and another vehicle sent the apparatus crashing into an electrical pole and a building.

One person died and two others were injured in a crash Friday morning in College Park between an Orlando fire truck and another vehicle, according to the Orlando Police Department.

One of the passengers in the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, Crosby said. The other two occupants were seriously injured and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, said OPD’s Lt. Charles Crosby.

The crash occurred at about 2:45 a.m. at Edgewater Drive and West Smith Street.

The fire truck left the roadway and hit an electric pole and a building on 2300 Edgewater Drive. No apparent damage to the building was found.

The Orlando firefighters involved in the crash were taken to Advent Health for evaluation, but no serious injuries were reported.

There may be traffic delays as Edgewater Drive will be closed northbound at West Princeton Street and southbound Vassar Street. West Smith Street will also be closed at Ann Arbor Avenue.

OPD gave no estimated time for the roadways re-opening.
