July 26, 2021
North Babylon crews were working at the scene of a four-car accident when another vehicle slammed into the rear of an apparatus, sending the rig's driver to the hospital.

A firefighter was injured when a New York apparatus was struck while crews were working at the scene of a previous crash early Sunday.

North Babylon firefighters responded to a single-vehicle accident with entrapment along Southern State Parkway, the department stated in an online update. While they were at the scene, a four-vehicle crash occurred only 100 feet from them.

As firefighters were finishing up at the scene, another vehicle slammed into the back of an apparatus. The crash injured the apparatus' driver, who was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle refused medical attention and was taken into custody by New York State Police, according to the fire department.
