A pickup truck from the Prairieton Fire Department struck a teenager Wednesday night.

Firefighters were called to a brush fire near a home in Terra Haute around 10 p.m.

Vigo County Sheriff’s officials told WIBQ that, as their units responded to the scene, fire personnel called for EMS and a medical helicopter.

They said the pedestrian, a 17-year-old male, was struck by a Prairieton/Prairie Creek Fire Department Dodge Ram 1500.

“We were responding to hay bales that were on fire and one of our apparatus was involved in a motor vehicle collision. At this time, until further investigation, we are not at liberty to give anymore information,” Prairieton Fire Department Deputy Chief Scott Dean told the radio station.

The teenager was flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The sheriff's office said detectives were called out to investigate the incident.
