Lincoln City Fire Department carried out another tradition of the past by christening a new truck Tuesday evening in Lincoln. Fire chief Bob Dunovsky gave a brief history of what firefighters were doing and why they were doing it.
"Lots of traditions are based off the days when there were horses and a fire brigade. In the old days they took water from the old truck and put it in the new truck," said Dunovsky who pointed to Ben Rowland who poured the water into truck 5103.
Dunovsky thanked former Chief Mark Miller, Brett Tripplett, James Reed and Robert Wood who served on the truck committee for their work on the project.
"The process started in 2017, and the truck was created in Tampa. Due to hurricane Michael production of the truck was delayed," said Dunovsky.
Dunovsky said there is room in the new vehicle to hold five firefighters with their air packs on, it holds 300 gallons of water, has many technology features and drives like a pickup truck.
"One of the neat things is at night it has blue led lights that lights up the ladder," said Dunovsky who was grateful for Lincoln City Council members for approving the purchase.
While children in attendance waited patiently for the ceremony to end they were treated to Jim Turley's playing of the bagpipe.
Hudson Miller, of Lincoln, couldn't help but smile when Dunovsky encouraged the group to get a closer look at the new truck.
"I like it, but he didn't like the bagpipes," said Max pointing to his brother.
City treasurer Chuck Conzo was admiring the new vehicle while someone pointed out the tight fit of getting the truck into the firehouse stall.
"They will house it in the Hamilton St., building because it fits better. It will have enough room, not much, but better than here," said Conzo.
