FFs Injured in Fatal Crash Between FDNY Aerial, Ambulance
A 59-year-old heart attack patient died after the FDNY ambulance taking him to the hospital collided with an apparatus responding to a call early Thursday, injuring eight department members.
The accident happened shortly after 12:45 a.m. in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, WABC-TV reports. That's when FDNY Ladder 102, which was headed to a fire, struck an ambulance taking Jamil Almansouri to the hospital.
Almansouri had suffered a heart attack before the crash, and he was pronounced dead when he reached the hospital. Almansouri's 35-year-old sister, who was in the ambulance, as well, was seriously injured in the accident.
Six FDNY firefighters who were riding in the apparatus and two EMS workers in the ambulance also suffered minor injuries, according to WNBC-TV. It's not clear what led to the accident happening.
