Firefighters with the Whitfield County Fire Department had the opportunity to test the firefighting capabilities of a robotic firefighting apparatus.
The robot named RS3 is remotely controlled, allowing for safer fire suppression activities in high-risk areas. RS3 is capable of flowing 2,500 GPM when supplied by a 3” line via joystick from a remote location.
The robot, which has an operational range of 500 to 1000 feet, was put through its paces by fire personnel on gas-fed fires. The robot can deploy a 12-foot water curtain and is rated to operate in atmospheres up to 500 degrees.
With a full tank of fuel the robot can operate up to 24 hours with speeds of up to 8 mph. The fuel engine can be shut down to conserve fuel and operate the electronic nozzle via the onboard battery system.
