Patient Killed in Ambulance, Semi Crash in Hillsborough County, FL

The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crew suffered minor injuries while the truck driver was not hurt.

A 64-year-old patient died after the ambulance she was riding in was hit by a semi-truck in Hillsborough County.

The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Ambulance was traveling east on McGee Road while the semi-truck was heading north on State Road 39.

The ambulance, that did not have its lights or siren activated, reportedly entered the path of the semi-truck, WTSP reported.

The ambulance turned onto its side while the rig jackknifed on the shoulder.

The patient died at the hospital while the ambulance crew suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The rig driver was not hurt. 

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
