Job Description
This is a lateral entry supervisory position requiring substantial fire service knowledge, skills and background. Job responsibilities include supervision of volunteer staff, fire apparatus operation, fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, rescue operations, and hazardous material and emergency medical response.
The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department is an all-hazards, all risk, fire, rescue and emergency services agency comprising 18 full-time employees, approximately 50 volunteers and two civilian staff. Mt. Lebanon Fire Department is one of 120 agencies in the United States and Canada that is both an accredited agency and holds an ISO Class 1 rating. Additionally, the department is licensed as a Quick Response Service by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is certified Advanced in the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Pediatric Voluntary Recognition Program. And the department is one of 42 in the Commonwealth to be certified to the gold level in the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s Participating Department Recognition Program. Mt. Lebanon participates in mutual aid with many neighboring communities and the department is considered a regional leader in best practices. Mt. Lebanon often leads joint training exercises and completed installation of a new, state-of-the-art fire training facility in 2024.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum five (5) years' fire service experience.
- Must reside in Mt. Lebanon within one (1) year after passing a one (1) year probation period.
- Possess Pro-Board OR IFSAC Firefighter II Certification.
- Possess PA. Department of Health OR National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
- Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Completed at least 30 credit hours of post secondary education, in any discipline, at an accredited college or university.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License within one (1) year of date of hire.
- Must be able to acquire a minimum of an associate’s degree in Fire Science from an accredited institution of higher learning within three (3) years of being hired.
- Must be able to obtain Fire Officer I certification within two (2) years of being hired.
- Must not use any type of tobacco product through duration of employment.
