"It is a privilege and an honor to help usher in a new chapter of leadership for our country," South Fulton Fire Capt. Andrea Hall said about Wednesday's event.

A Georgia firefighter has been chosen to give the Pledge of Allegiance at Wednesday's presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C.

South Fulton Fire Capt. Andrea Hall is a 28-year veteran firefighter, and she's the first African American female to hold the rank of captain in her department, according to the City of South Fulton. She's also the president of the South Fulton Professional Firefighters, Local 3920.

“I am thrilled and humbled to represent firefighters and other frontline workers in the state of Georgia and the City of South Fulton. … It is a privilege and an honor to help usher in a new chapter of leadership for our country,” she said in a statement.

Hall said she was asked to deliver the pledge by the president of the International Association of Fire Fighters and President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration committee. Biden will become the 46th president and Kamala Harris will become the first female and African American vice president on Wednesday.

“We are proud of Capt. Harris and our entire team of fire and rescue personnel,” Mayor William “Bill” Edwards said in a statement. “She represents the best city staff in the state and it is only fitting that she lead our nation in the pledge.
