March 20, 2025
There were no smoke alarms in the house where a mother and infant perished last October.

Owners of a Clinton airbnb where a mother and infant perished in a fire last fall have been arrested.

Dennis Darcy, 57, and Meredith Darcy, 55, were charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter following an indictment by a Dutchess County Grand Jury.

John and Shannon Hubbard were sitting on an outside patio when they smelled smoke. Their young children were asleep inside, according to news 10.

The mother ran into the house to rescue the children while her husband called 9-1-1. He also tried to get into the house to help.

Firefighters managed to rescue the mother and children, but she and her infant daughter died.

Investigators determined the house did not have smoke alarms although the airbnb listing said otherwise. the owners also didn't have a permit for the short-term rental.
